As a child we went to the movies regularly; I remember seeing Fantasia and Bambi and Star Wars on the big screen. In my teens the prices started going up steeply, but I remember going to a lot of movies in the cheap theaters instead of first runs, and seeing classics like Gone with the Wind and Doctor Zhivago in the old Landmark Theater, midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show (with props! in costume!) and Creature from the Black Lagoon (in 3D!) in theaters that have long since closed down and been demolished.
After moving out on my own, I just couldn't justify the cost of movies, and mostly waited until they came out on video, then DVD, and now Netflix, unless it was something I *really* wanted to see, or someone else was treating. I can probably count the number of films I saw in the theater in the last 20 years on my fingers! But at home.... When I get to work at home, I like to put on a movie or TV series and then just draw, paint, or sculpt the day away.

Labyrinth with David Bowie? Loved that one too! Young Frankenstein! I can see I am going to have to keep adding to my list!
ReplyDeleteThat's the one, Janet! I kept adding to mine, until I finally decided I *had* to stop! So many I saw on other people's lists, and I was like, "I loved that movie!" LOL!
DeleteLove these choices! I'm a Johnny Depp person too--and Harry Potter!

DeleteOh! Chocolat...this is a great reminder.
ReplyDeleteThe books were great too!
DeleteOh goodness - claymation!!! Making me smile.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember it, Deborah? I loved the dinosaurs discussing the origins of the Wassailing Song in between all the other songs... ^o^
DeleteI'm totally loving your list! Many of the titles are firmly planted as all-time faves. Although I never did see Waterworld, it came out at a time I wasn't seeing many films.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't as great as it could have been, but I love the potential for new stories in the Waterworld universe; so it's one of my faves!
DeleteThat's so funny! We were just talking about Better Off Dead over dinner tonight! *I want my two dollars!!* :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes! My mom & I still say that to each other. XD *Two dollars!*
