A Reminder...

Swinging under the full moon
by bride_of_neptune

Plant impossible gardens. Look forward to dreams. Cry during movies. Swing as high as you can on a swing set, by moonlight. Cultivate moods. Do it for love. Take lots of naps. Take moon baths. Giggle with children. Listen to old people. Entertain your inner child. Build a fort with blankets. Get wet. Hug trees. Write love letters.

New Mermaid Art Doll and Treasure Box from Faerie Gardens

Melusinia came into being more than a year a half ago, destined for warmer climes, but after a brief vacation in the south, she decided to return to the cooler waters of Lake Ontario. However, this winter has been the last straw for her. She has packed her favorite box with memories and dreams and is requesting a new location; she doesn't care where. (I suspect a merman is involved in her decision, but she won't confirm or deny the allegations.)

EtsyBloggers BlogCarnival: Winter

Linda at PruittHandcrafts says: Write something about you/your family's winter experiences. Let's see if you can make the "cold" come thru your writing!

Winter in central NY is not easy, especially in our neck of the woods.  We're in that magic belt of land that gets hit with storms moving across NY south of Lake Ontario, as well as any of the lake effect storms hitting the area.  Seriously, you can drive less than 1/2 a mile in any direction and they will not have as much snow as we do.  It's crazy, and I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't experience it every year for the past 6 years!

This is Jacqueline at the foot of our driveway (she's 5' 2" for size reference); that snow bank is a good 2 feet over our mailbox.  Down the street?  The snowbanks aren't even up to the mailboxes.  Just take a look at the ones in my last photo from around the corner...

But even though we get a lot of snow, and spend a lot of time either shoveling, or inside consuming copious quantities of cocoa (that's fun to say), we do have fun out there!  Especially the kids...

So how about you?  I'd love to see pics of your area in the winter and hear about your experiences.  And if you want to see more too, just head over to Linda's blog for all the other EtsyBloggers' links!

I must SHINE

I need to remember things

this thing: school

I can't just wander about saying it sux

because then I need to escape it

and not ever go back

because I hate it so bad

I need to remember that I *WANT* to be there because I believe it can be better

I can be the bringer of change, the planter of seeds

by my actions

by doing it the UNschooling way

I need to remember that

I need to wake up and go: OK! Whose life am I going to make a difference in today, and how?

I can't just be dreading going to school

because I feel cornered there

I can't let them corner me

Writer's Block: Super Bowl XLV

I usually don't answer these, and certainly not over here on the blogspot as they're an LJ kinda thing, but this one I really wanted to share...

Are you watching the Super Bowl this year? If not, how will you enjoy the day? If you are watching, how will you be celebrating the game?

In the past, I've made special themed pizzas or other dishes in honor of the teams playing, and headed to my mom's for a party, where most of us just watched the commercials and half-time show, but some actually watched the game. However, in the past few years, our family has just stayed home because of the snow, but still had a special meal, and watched the commercials via the internet.

Since we've been carless for a week now - and our oven doesn't work - we don't really have the ingredients - or means - to make one of my special pizzas (I was thinking Philly Cheesesteak with Wisconsin cheddar of course... ~_^ ), or any other special Superbowl food. So I think we'll just be hanging out as usual and watching the commercials sometime... I see quite a few are already available for your viewing pleasure! ^-^
