Today's Art...

As requested last night by Kali...

All I have left is to seal it. It doesn't show much in the pic, but the box has a rainbow kind of like the pentacle does. It's about 3" diameter. The inside is black, the rim is silver, and there is another silver ring around the bottom.

SPRING!

Today was a lovely day, and we took advantage of it to run down to Camillus and clean out my dad's frig. (He went to FL before the new year, and there were some ripe things in there...) Then we headed over to the park of my childhood, Shove Park (rhymes with shrove), to play and enjoy the sunshine. Now, I am sitting in the bedroom with both windows and the front door open listening to the cacophony of robins and chickadees and spring peepers! YES! Spring peepers for the first time this year! YAY!

Here are some pics:

The girls attempt to slide down together...

...while Ant hides out with his GBA...

and Da Momma reads.

Even I went down the slide!

Then we visited the old rocking animals...

I am sure my mom has pics of me on those things...
(And why does the Monkees theme song play in my head when I see this pic?)

What is that evil look on Ant's face?

OH NO!

He totally car-jacked Lia... XD

Fun day at Shove Park...

TiLT: Things I Love Thursday

Sleepy version...

Coloring eggs for Ostara
Sunrise at the lake (even if the wind whips your nose off)
Snow that melts before I wake up
Shoots in the flower box getting taller
Going out in shirtsleeves and not freezing to death
Friends who IM me the second they see me log on
HONORABLE MENTIONS: These cupcake charms (wish I could read that!), finding old words I have written, finding old pictures I have drawn, not needing so many blankets, and this video (wishing the title was true!):

Blog Carnival: Spring is Sproinging!

This winter was mild for us, but still I was ready for the cold & snow to disappear by mid-January, not usual for me, but I guess living in the country this far north has had it toll on me. I am ready for Spring baby!

And it is finally on its way! Last week we had some beautiful weather...

Most of the snow has melted...

Shoots are coming up in the flower bed...

But it's still frosty most mornings....

I can't wait til it's warm enough for breakfast on the front steps in our nighties again... ^-^

Hope Will Never Be Silent

Yesterday afternoon, the editor of Diversity Rules Magazine received hate mail threatening them to "CEASE AND DESIST" or suffer "a personal TUNEUP" adding that hate crime legislation will not stop them, even if they have to hire someone. I am utterly dumb-founded by such blatant bigotry that I don't know what to say. The police have been notified of course, and are investigating, but meanwhile, what do we do? I don't know for sure, but I do know that we can't just roll over and give in to their homophobic browbeating. We need to stand tall and face these cowardly bullies who hide behind anonymous email and find a way to stop the spread of such hatred, prejudice, and unfounded fear.

Never be bullied into silence.
Never allow yourself to be made a victim.
Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself.

~Harvey Fierstein, American actor and playwright

Straight Americans need... an education of the heart and soul.
They must understand - to begin with - how it can feel
to spend years denying your own deepest truths,
to sit silently through classes, meals, and church services
while people you love toss off remarks that brutalize your soul.

~Bruce Bawer, The Advocate, 28 April 1998

Mothers, tell your children:
be quick, you must be strong.
Life is full of wonder,
love is never wrong.

Remember how they taught you,
how much of it was fear.
Refuse to hand it down -
the legacy stops here.

~Melissa Etheridge, "Silent Legacy," Yes I Am, 1993

March Madness

No, this post will have nothing to do with basketball, but it will have everything to do with the madness that is said to descend upon hares in the month of March, and I, being of rabbity persuasion, often have fits of madness to rival those of said March hare, and speaking of March hares, mad hatters, and white rabbits... I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! *gigglefitz*

Seriously now people! I meant to post this much earlier, but as I always say, better late than never! Now where was I? Oh yes, March madness! It has come upon me and I am feeling like a giveaway! I had so many wonderful people come visit for the last one, that I thought, "why not do it again?"

So my dear friends, here is how to win:
  1. Leave a comment on this post stating you want to be entered.

  2. Please include a way to contact you (via email or another blog, etc.) in case you win.

  3. For an extra entry, post about my giveaway in your blog and link me to it!

  4. For yet another entry, add me to your Following list via Blogspot!
I suppose now you want to know what you'll be winning with all this work I am making you do! Well, it's a surprise! Ok, not entirely... You will receive a small package of goodies from Faerie Garden Fancies, that will include a spring art ATC, a spring-themed piece of jewelry not-yet-created, and perhaps a few other odds and ends, as the madness dictates...

You have until MIDNIGHT EST, March 31, 2009 to post your reply, and on April 1st, I will select one lucky winner! So don't be an April Fool; get your entries in today, and spread the word!

OMG the madness is starting again, I am getting corny... I better end this post now...

Changing how we think about Bills...

Wow. This is amazing. Such a revolutionary thought for me! Excerpt from article just posted by Gala Darling...

How about changing your behaviour & feelings about bills or due payments? What about if you didn’t curse & swear when you received a bill in the mail? What if you thought of it as a blessing? Examine it without emotion — that company or person trusts & loves you enough to supply you with something even before you pay! How amazing is that?!

It’s like a message from the universe that it has faith that you can easily generate that money. Think of it like a little cheerleader saying, “You can do it!”

Pay your bills with love & gratitude & it will keep the positive flow going. After all, how does being angry or upset about a bill serve you?

I fear my bills, from the very beginning, because to me they are essentials: electricity, rent, phone, internet... (Yes, some might argue the case against any one of those, but for me they are essentials; this is not debatable at this point.) It scares me that they cost so much, and what if I don't have enough? For a long time it's been a struggle to have enough, not just recently, but since I first started having bills of my own!

So even if we can pay them, I still have fear.

But I like the idea of seeing them as blessings! That they trust me to have enough to pay, that I can have electricity, rent, phone, internet... before paying! And I need to trust the universe to make sure I have enough, and we *have* had it when it's been necessary. The universe has never let me down on that...

Quote of the Day

From "A Poet's Advice to Students" in E. E. Cummings, a Miscellany: A Miscellany (1958)

To be nobody-but-yourself-in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else— means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

QOTD

I love this quote; it sums up how I've been feeling lately, like I've been hibernating, but am now waking up and struggling to figure out where to go and what to do...

"You live like this, sheltered, in a delicate world, and you believe you are living. Then you read a book (Lady Chatterley, for instance), or you take a trip, ... and you discover that you are not living, that you are hibernating. The symptoms of hibernating are easily detectable: first, restlessness. The second symptom (when hibernating becomes dangerous and might degenerate into death): absence of pleasure. That is all. It appears like an innocuous illness. Monotony, boredom, death. Millions live like this (or die like this) without knowing it. They work in offices. They drive a car. They picnic with their families. They raise children. And then some shock treatment takes place, a person, a book, a song, and it awakens them and saves them from death." — Winter, 1931-1932 from The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Volume One 1931-1934

iTC: The Final Days

Goals:
  1. Take one step towards safety.

  2. Create something every day.
So how did I do?

Take one step towards safety:
During the past week, I've worked hard to refrain from spending. I realize this doesn't seem actively moving toward safety for our family, but it's a big part of it. We seriously discussed places that we could realistically move to, and worked on the job apps for those school districts. And there was more serious discussion and soul searching on how to make a living making art!

Create something every day:
I started a challenge with a friend to do a figure study sketch once per day for the next week. If you'd like to check them out, there are here, but remember they are figure studies and are naked! I've also gotten some new clay and created some new pieces for Faerie Garden Fancies, as well as finished up a commissioned piece, including a small video of its creation. Now if only I could get it to save correctly so I can upload it!

So, how were your final iCing Transformation Days?

The iCiNG Transformation Challenge is brought to you by Gala Darling!
