FlatRock and the Oswego Harbor

Last Thursday we headed up to town and stopped at FlatRock, our favorite place to hang out!  Lia & I took some time to walk out on the pier, but we only went about a quarter of the way to the lighthouse.  It was so windy, it kept blowing Lia's hair funny and her shadow looked like she had cat ears...

Despite the wind it was a very nice walk.  We even got a nice picture of our swimming spot from a different angle!  Sadly it was still too cold for swimming...

On the way out, we saw two very large birds arguing over a lamp post on the power plant property.  They were ospreys!  This one won.  ^o^

I can't wait til we can go up and stay for a longer visit, that includes floating in the lake...

TiLT: Blessing, Blissings, and more...

I've not done one of these since New Year's Eve, and here is, practically half the year gone by.  I've been having a rough time seeing the good lately, and thought listing the things I feel blessed to have in my life and things I've been loving recently would help me see things with a rosier tint... ^-^  So without further ado...

Blessings: Always first on the list is my love, Jacqueline, who makes all things better, and my family, Antonio, Esme, JoAnn, and Lia, who amaze me everyday with their Beings.  I have a car to get me to & from work and places I need & want to go.  I have a shelter from the cold & rain and a place to bathe and get clean water.  I have a phone and the internet and lights to see at night.  I have a soft bed with blankets & pillows and clothes to wear that look nice on me even if I don't particularly like them.  I have a camera and lots of art supplies and access to thousands of books & media, and I have friends and family and even strangers who will help when things get really hard.

Blissings: The hummingbird is back at the feeder and neither rain nor wind nor sun will keep him away!  Fifth & sixth grade classrooms, the rediscovery of Flatrock in the Spring, the flowers in our yard, the sounds of the birds and bugs and frogs that fill the air of our woods 'round the clock... Glee time! (sadface that there's only one epi til Fall!)  Volkwagons and the sweet guys that drive them.  Key Lime candles, lilacs in bloom, Baltimore orieles, warm chocolate chip cookies & brownies, the smell of coffee...

More:  Dr. Who, teeny tiny animals, 3D movies, cosmic jewelry, MLP, mood beads, like buttons, tumblr, mermaids, lava rocks, sea glass, swirly skirts, and all kinds of crazy things on Etsy...

Things I Love Thursday is brought to you by Gala Darling...

Wishcasting Wednesday

Jamie asks, "What fun do you wish to have?"

Oh Jamie, how perceptive you are this week... seeing into my heart and knowing that with the summer upon us, FUN is all I have on my mind. It comes with plenty of free time for this substitute teacher, but also a slowing of funds for things like gas and parking and admission to state parks and beaches and campgrounds, which are the fun things I am wishing for this summer.

To be able to not worry about the few extra dollars in gas to visit the lakeside nearly daily, or the cost of parking to visit the state parks near-by, or to even have enough funds to make it to a campsite with the kids for a weekend or two throughout the summer, AND have enough to pay the necessities like rent & electricity & internet, and maybe even the NetFlix... That's the kind of FUN I wish for...

Lazy days, sun and waves, picnic lunches & dinners, swimming, chapters read in the sun-dappled shade, THOUSANDS of pictures, and art by the armload! WORRY FREE. No worry about whether we're going to bounce checks, no worry about if the car is going to make it, no worry that I won't be able to make the kids happy enough.... That's the kind of fun I wish for...

Swimming in May!

About a week ago we went swimming, and although everyone else got in, I was too chicken... I got sprayed by waves and waded up to my knees or so, but it was COLD! I did get some great family photos though! Here's some of the best pics:

Jacqueline got a new suit a few months back; now it's too big!

And I haven't found a new suit yet, but I'm going be *swimming* in mine too soon!

Lia got in first, but I am not sure if she was ready!

Ant & Jacqueline splash about...

Here are the girls!

A dramatic shot with the sunset behind us...

Another dramatic one; can you tell I posed us?

Chillin' at Flatrock...

I think Ant was getting sick of the picture taking by this time...

Lia jumps...

Esme hovers...

and JoAnn flies...

2009: A Pictorial Review

Reflections of the past year...

The sun dawned on a cold but bright new year...

Esme turned 15...

Lia turned 11...

And the snow started to melt, much to my joy!

The lake was still too cold for swimming...

but the St. Patty's Day Parade was unusually warm!

Esme went Pretty in Pink...

April saw lots of sun, but also those infamous showers...

But eventually we could picnic amid the May flowers!

Jacqueline celebrated her birthday!

We had picnics at the beach...

And saw rainbows!

We all celebrated at Harborfest on Jo's 13th birthday...

And Ant turned 17!

The summer drew to a close at Flat Rock...

And with bittersweet joy, Benji came into the world, as my step-dad Frank departed.

In September, I gots a new camera!

And Fall arrived in a show of color...

We partied in October!

And Benji loved movie night!

We started November in another state (Tennessee)...

And started a new Thanksgiving tradition!

We sent everyone warm holiday greetings...

And December ends cold & icy, but with warm and sunny hope for the dawning year...
