Walgreens and Express Script

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Although I am not currently taking any regular prescription medications, I know what a financial burden this can be to many people.  In the past, I was taking four different medications on a daily basis to help control my diabetes.  I see my dad who also has diabetes struggle with prescription costs, and realize that sometime in the future, I may need to add some meds to my own routine to keep my blood glucose levels under control.  With that in mind, I keep my eye on various pharmacies and the prescription drug market in general, always looking for bargains to pass on to relatives and friends.

I was sad to see the recent press release put out by Walgreens stating that Walgreens and Express Script would no longer be continuing their contract this year.  People with some prescription insurance plans managed by Express Scripts will no longer we able to use their prescription insurance at Walgreens.  You can tell if you are affected by checking the back of your insurance card.  If it has Express Scripts' name there you will be affected.  You can also ask your Walgreens pharmacist who would be happy to help make this transition as smooth as possible for you if necessary.

It is sad that many people who have long term relationships with their pharmacists will now have to drive farther or even use mail order pharmacies to stay within their preferred insurance network.  Because Walgreens would like as many customers as possible to be able to continue to do business with them, they are offering a special discount on the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club.  During this January a person can join for $5 or for $10 for the entire family, and they can save on more than 8000 brand name prescription medications and all generic prescription medications.  More than 400 generic medications are offered through this plan at a low, less than $1 a week rate, with a three month supply.  This plan usually costs $20 for an individual and $35 for a family.
