New Orleans, Seafood Recipes, and a Contest!

Ok! So who wants to go to New Orleans? *raises hand* ME! Ever since I was a teenager and my then-boyfriend’s brother went for Mardi Gras, I have been wanting to go. Especially after the devestation that hit them in 2005, it’s made my desire even stronger, to go and add my meager support to help rebuild. Anyway, I digress...

Who likes seafood? *raises hand* Yes, me again. Lobster, crab, shrimp, clams, fish... YUM! Gimme more of that!

And one more, who likes recipes? OMG you guessed it... Me yet again! So that is why this contest totally ROCKS! I get to pick my favorite seafood recipe from the Great American Seafood Cook Off and enter to win a trip to New Orleans in the process!

They’ve narrowed it down to five great recipes and it was a tough decision for me to make. (I don’t know how the judges did it!) I definitely want to try them all! I think the one I’ll vote for will be the Texas Gulf Shrimp by Chef Mark Holley from Texas. I love shrimp, and making it would give me the opportunity to try hominy and prickly pear, neither of which I’ve ever had. I know Jacqueline doesn’t like hominy, and she’s a little sqeamish about trying new things, but I bet she’d try it for me anyway. And I saw prickly pears at Wegman’s the other day!

The best part of all these recipes is that the fish is all domestic. From right here in America. So you don’t have to worry about imported, possibly overfished species in any of these recipes. And the fish is going to be fresher and taste better because of that!

So here is your mission, if you raised your hand for even ONE of those questions up there, go to The Great American Cook Off Contest and vote for your favorite! Get some kickin’ recipes in the process AND enter for that trip to New Orleans! ^_^
